Migraciones has already received 13,000 applications from foreigners for its new extraordinary regularization. The figure —announced this week— is the first balance of a plan that seeks to give papers to those living in Spain without a residence permit. So, if you are in that situation, pay attention.
Regularization is not automatic, mind you. Each case is reviewed one by one. You have to prove roots, job offer or family ties, according to the bases of the call. If you meet the requirements, this is the time to submit your documentation. Places are limited and the deadline is fixed, so hurry up.
Who can apply? Well, in principle, foreigners who have been in Spain for at least two years and demonstrate continuous work or stable ties. Also those who have contract offers. The process is done online, through the electronic headquarters of Migraciones. However: you will need a digital certificate or Cl@ve to sign the application. If you don't have it, go get it.
Immigrant associations warn of the usual problems: website crashes, tight deadlines and lack of clear information. If you get an error when sending, do not despair —you know how these things are—. Keep all receipts and, if you can, request an appointment at a foreigner's office to resolve doubts. You have been warned.
