1600 migrants in Palencia can regularize their status: the telematic deadline begins.

From today you can request the extraordinary regularization of migrants in Spain. In Palencia, between 1,500 and 1,600 people —those without papers— can take advantage of it. First you have to do it online, though: from Monday the 20th you can also go in person.

Who can apply? Well, those who are in Spain irregularly or are applicants for international protection, provided they arrived before January 1, 2026. You must also have lived here for at least five consecutive months. And, watch out, you cannot have a criminal record or pose a danger to public order.

The authorization you get is for residence and work for one year —valid throughout Spain and for any sector—. If you meet all the requirements, the best thing is to request an appointment online on the website of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. It operates 24 hours a day and is the recommended method.

If you prefer to do it in person, you can request an appointment at the Provincial Directorate of the General Treasury of Social Security, at Avenida de la Comunidad Europea 16 in Palencia. They are open Monday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. —special hours for this procedure—. You can also go to the Post Office at Plaza de León, with continuous hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The deputy government delegate, Eduardo Santiago, has made it clear that you don't have to go on the first day: the deadline is open until June 30 and the system is prepared to handle all applications. And he has insisted that the Immigration offices of the Subdelegation do not manage this procedure, so do not go there.

According to a study by Funcas, around 840,000 people could be regularized throughout Spain —17.2% of the non-EU foreign population—. In Palencia, the estimated figure is between 1,500 and 1,600. To give you an idea, last year 543 regularizations for roots were granted in the province.
