Beware of immigration appointment scams: up to €55 for a free service

Have you been asked for money for an appointment at the immigration office? Don’t pay—it’s a scam. The police are already investigating groups that sell appointments at immigration offices—for up to 55 euros. And the regularization process, which runs through June 30, is completely free.

So all you have to do is search Facebook for “buy regularization appointment” to find these sellers. Within minutes, they’ll contact you via WhatsApp. They’ll ask for your information and the specific service you need, and then send you instructions to transfer the money to an account in Pakistan. A journalist from Cadena SER tested this by posing as an applicant; they were asked for 55 euros for an appointment.

This isn’t new. Lawyers who went through the 2005 regularization process recall that the same thing happened back then. The mafias take advantage of those who don’t know the language or are undocumented. Desperation works in their favor. But here’s the thing: the appointment itself is free, and you can request it yourself on the official website, by phone, or through the designated form.

If someone offers you an appointment in exchange for money, be wary. In fact, the government has already issued warnings: “In-person appointments are FREE; no one can charge you to book or secure an in-person appointment.” And the Government Delegation in Catalonia is working to ensure this information reaches all communities.

Don’t fall for it. The deadline for regularization is June 30. You have time, and there are official channels. If you see these offers, you can report them.
