Two men have been arrested in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas. The National Police accuse them of having booked appointments at the Immigration and Asylum Offices massively —using a computer program— to later sell them to immigrants who needed to regularize their situation. Each appointment cost 50 euros and was paid by bank transfer.
It happened on October 16. Agents saw two guys inside a car handling several mobile phones at once —like telemarketers. So they verified that they were using a bot to call again and again the telephone number enabled to request an appointment. In this way, they blocked the system and made it almost impossible for another person to get a legal appointment.
If you are looking for an appointment at Immigration, be careful —and not only because they might scam you. Buying an appointment from these resellers is illegal, and also feeds a black market that harms everyone. The Police seized four phones and an agenda full of data from foreigners who had bought appointments. So, watch out: you could end up involved in an investigation.
The two detainees have been placed at the disposal of the court as alleged perpetrators of crimes of computer damage and fraud. The Police make it clear: this practice saturates the public system and harms those who truly need the service.
