The special regularization process for migrants is now underway. The application period, which opened on April 16 via online submission, will remain open until June 30, 2026. Starting this Monday, April 20, you can also submit your application in person.
If you find yourself in this situation, the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB) advises you not to go through this process alone. They put it plainly: you’re risking your right to a residence permit and the ability to work in any sector and in any town or city in Spain for one year.
To qualify, you must be in the country before January 1, 2026, and have resided here continuously for five months. That sounds simple, but administrative procedures often have pitfalls. The ICAB has not limited itself to offering advice. It has strengthened training in immigration law and offered a free course that drew more than 500 participants. It is also organizing a conference on the reform, in coordination with the General Council of Spanish Lawyers. And on a practical level, it has secured a pilot program in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat so that appointments for the Foreigner Identification Card (TIE) are assigned automatically. These measures aim to make the process more streamlined and less chaotic.
Regularization is a real opportunity, but it’s not a trivial process. Don’t sign anything without understanding it, and don’t trust agents who promise miracles. A lawyer will provide you with thorough advice. And if the process gets complicated, don’t just sit back and do nothing.
