Get moving, foreigner: the appointment for in-person income tax returns starts on May 29th

On May 29, the window to schedule an in-person tax return appointment opens. But be aware: tax offices won’t begin in-person service until June 1, and only through June 30. If you live in Spain and are a foreign national, you’ll most likely need to file a tax return if you worked or resided here in 2024. So if you want in-person assistance, you’ll need to book an appointment. Don’t show up without an appointment, because they won’t see you.

You can book an appointment by phone—call 91 553 00 68 or 901 22 33 44—through the Tax Agency’s website, or via its mobile app. They’ll confirm your appointment via text or email. Just remember: if you can’t make it, cancel to free up the slot—there’s always someone waiting. To find the office that’s most convenient for you, use the locator on the website: just enter your ZIP code.

Before you go, make sure you have all your documents ready. If you’re missing anything, the process will be delayed and you’ll have to reschedule—no one wants that. So bring:

As a foreigner, your tax return may be more complicated—especially if you arrived in Spain mid-year or if you have income in your home country. In that case, it’s best to consult with an advisor, because an in-person appointment with the tax office is fine for general questions, but it doesn’t resolve very specific cases. The offices fill up quickly, so don’t wait until the last minute. Schedule your appointment on May 29 itself if you can. Get moving.
