If you live in Spain as a foreigner and have not yet filed your Income Tax return, the Tax Agency —Hacienda, for clarity— has opened its telephone service. Calls have already started, but you need to request an appointment. Since when? Since April 29. You have several numbers to call: 915 35 73 26 / 901 12 12 24 or 915 53 00 71 / 901 22 33 44. You can also request it online or through the e-office app. Get moving, because appointments fly.
Look, the system is simple: you decide whether you prefer to be called in the morning or in the afternoon. They assign you a specific day and time. The call will come from a landline number: 913335333. Beware: Hacienda will only call you if you have requested an appointment. If someone contacts you from another number claiming to be from Hacienda, do not trust them. It is a fraud attempt. If you have doubts, you can report it through official channels. And don't be scared; they won't fool you if you stay alert.
Before the call, prepare all the documentation. You will need your ID or NIE (the original, no photos) and that of any other people you include in the return. Also the IBAN of your account, the cadastral references of your properties, and supporting documents for regional deductions —such as rent or mortgage—. If you have had income that does not appear in the tax data that Hacienda has, have the papers that prove it handy, depending on the type of income. You don't want to argue with Hacienda afterwards, so make sure you have everything.
For foreigners, an important detail: if you arrived in Spain during 2024 or had income outside the country, you may need extra help. The telephone service is designed for simple returns —but if your case is more complex, it is better to consult an advisor or request an in-person appointment. On the Hacienda website you can request an appointment for both phone and office. So, if you have doubts, you know what to do.
And don't leave it for the last minute. The income tax campaign has deadlines, and if you miss them, you could face a fine. If you have problems with the language or with procedures, remember that during the call you can ask them to speak clearly. The staff is used to assisting foreign residents. You have been warned.
