ICAM is holding its Second Immigration Congress from September 30 to October 2

From September 30 to October 2, the ICAM Courtyard will be filled with lawyers, judges, and institutional leaders. This is the second edition of the Immigration Congress organized by the Madrid Bar Association. And this year, the focus is on something that affects you personally: how the rules of the game are changing.

The title of the event itself makes this clear. Discussions will cover citizenship, regularization, and the new European migration framework. Extraordinary regularization will be one of the central topics. Also on the agenda: how this process affects the handling of cases already in progress, and the migration policies being shaped outside Spain that will eventually take effect here.

An entire section is dedicated to digitization: immigration and citizenship cases going paperless, electronic notifications, and platforms that crash. If you’re in the middle of a proceeding, the advice is simple: check your citizen portal and your email more often than you’d like to. A notice you miss works against you. And keep a copy of everything you upload.

The Supreme Court’s rulings on immigration and free movement will have their own section. This isn’t an abstract debate: these rulings shape how real cases are resolved, from denials of residency to cases involving family members of EU citizens. Another hot topic is international remote work and its taxation in Spain—a growing trend that raises tax questions for those who work for a foreign company without leaving home.

There will also be panels on employment access for refugees and victims of human trafficking, addressing the administrative barriers that hinder their entry into the labor market. The event will also address the role of consulates, the challenges of documenting foreign nationals, and the Ombudsman’s perspective on migration.
