If you are a foreigner, this is how you request an appointment for the 2025 tax return in Madrid.

On Friday, May 29, the registration period opens for the 2025 Income Tax Campaign in Madrid. If you live in the capital and are a foreign national, this municipal service can help you file your income tax return in person.

Last year, nearly 30,000 people used this service, and more than 5,000 were over 65 years old. But be aware that not everyone is eligible. Your annual income cannot exceed 80,000 euros, your investment income must be less than 20,000 euros, and if you rent out properties, you can have no more than two. More complex tax situations—such as multiple asset transfers—are excluded. If your situation is straightforward, the City Council is here to help.

To schedule an appointment, you have several options: the Tax Agency’s website, its official app, or by calling 91 553 00 71 (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and 91 535 73 26 (24-hour automated service). If you already had an in-person appointment in 2024 and haven’t changed your tax address, you can use the fast track. Keep in mind, the deadline is June 29, so hurry up.

This year there are new developments that may interest you if you are an immigrant. For example, a deduction of up to 340 euros for those earning the minimum wage (16,576 euros) or less than 18,276 euros, provided they have no other income exceeding 6,500 euros. Deductions for energy efficiency and electric vehicles also remain in place. And if you’re a foreigner who has moved to a municipality at risk of depopulation, you may be eligible for regional aid.

Remember: if your tax return shows a balance due, you can only set up direct debit for payment until June 25. If you choose another method or pay later, you’ll have to file it on your own.
