Getting an appointment at the Immigration Office has become an ordeal —and if you are seeking asylum, it is directly an insurmountable wall. The Spanish Bar Association has denounced it, and it does not mince words.
The General Council of the Spanish Bar Association states loud and clear: the telematic system is violating the right to asylum. And how? Well, because there are many people who cannot even get a prior appointment. Without an appointment, no application is valid. And if you do not formalize your application, international protection is nothing more than a dead letter.
It is not a minor problem: the law recognizes asylum as a fundamental right, but if the entry door —the cursed online appointment— is closed or collapsed, that right remains theoretical. The Bar Association has focused on this paradox: a system that, instead of facilitating, stops you in your tracks.
If you are in this situation, do not remain silent. You can try going in person to the Asylum and Refugee Office —although many officials will tell you to do it online. The best thing is to seek legal advice as soon as possible. A specialized lawyer can help you file an appeal or find alternative routes. Move.
