So you can now go to the Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal —in Madrid— and get the flu vaccine without needing an appointment. That is, if you are over 18. The center is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 20:30. The measure comes at a time when the flu has exceeded the epidemic threshold: 42 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The campaign focuses on risk groups: people over 60, healthcare and social care workers, chronic patients, pregnant women, caregivers of vulnerable people, smokers and early childhood education teachers. If you are under 18, the vaccine is given at your health center, not here.
El Zendal joins the more than 800 vaccination points already distributed throughout the community: health centers, other hospitals, nursing homes. The Ministry of Health makes it clear: the vaccine is the best protection against serious complications of the flu. And by the way, they remind you to wear a mask in enclosed spaces or if you are with fragile people, and to wash your hands often.
If you live in Madrid and are a foreigner, you can get vaccinated for free and without an appointment. You only need to be registered and have a health card. Bring your ID or NIE and, if you already have it, the card. Are you not yet in the public system? Make an appointment at your health center to get the health card. Your administrative status does not matter: public healthcare covers you.
The campaign started on October 15 and has already vaccinated more than 1.2 million people in the region. The walk-in service at the Zendal will continue as long as the incidence remains high.
