Madrid launches telephone appointments for consumers: here's how to request one.

If you are a foreigner and live in Madrid and have a doubt about a purchase, a contract or any other consumer issue, now you have a new option: request an appointment by phone and have them call you. The Community of Madrid has just launched this system in the Consumer Service Office, named telephone pre-appointment. It operates from nine to two in the afternoon, Monday to Friday working days.

So you don't have to leave home. You just go to the Community's appointment website, select the telephone service option, choose day and time, and fill out a form with your NIF or NIE, name, mobile and email. The system returns a confirmation code. With that code you can check or cancel the appointment if something unexpected comes up later.

Before this new feature, you could already call the numbers 91 310 59 03 or 91 310 58 39, or request an in-person appointment at Ramírez de Prado street, 5 bis. There is also a video call. But the new thing is that now the Administration calls you. —And that, if you have complicated schedules or find it difficult to go in person, makes your life much easier.

And what is all this for? Well, you can check the status of an open file or anything else related to your rights as a consumer. For example —if you have been overcharged for a service, if a product does not work or if you want advice before signing a contract—. The idea is that you don't stay in doubt and that you can resolve it without leaving home.

So if you plan to request the appointment, have your identity document and an email address handy. The procedure is quick —but choose the time well, they only attend in the morning—. And remember that you can cancel the appointment if a change of plans arises.
