More than 150,000 applications. That is the figure the Government is handling for the extraordinary regularization in Catalonia. A forecast that, mind you, reflects the extremely high demand for this exceptional procedure. It is designed for foreigners who have been in Spain for a long time but without a residence permit – those called 'undocumented'.
That said, don't be fooled: this regularization is neither permanent nor automatic. It is activated for humanitarian, roots-based or labor reasons, and each autonomous community manages its own volume. Catalonia, due to its migratory weight, concentrates a lot of applications. In fact, the Government estimates that the final figure could skyrocket in the coming weeks.
So, if you are thinking of applying, be very clear about what you will need: a minimum demonstrable period of stay, a social or labor integration report, and in many cases a job offer. Documentation is key – a valid passport, continuous registration with the local census, and any proof of your integration. You don't want to fight bureaucracy, so prepare everything.
Don't be overconfident, because the immigration offices in Catalonia collapse as soon as regularization deadlines open. Getting an appointment can be an odyssey. Some choose to go to a gestor or to immigrant associations that offer free advice. But inform yourself well before paying for dubious services. Get moving.
The window of opportunity is real, but deadlines are ticking. So check if you meet the requirements and prepare your papers as soon as possible. Each case is unique – it's best to cross-check with official sources. Don't wait until the last moment.
