No Appointment or Insurance Required: Mental Health Clinic Opens in Reno

Starting this week, Reno residents have a place to go if they need mental health help and don’t have an appointment or insurance. The clinic—run by Northern Nevada Homes—is on 5th Street. And yes, you can walk in without calling ahead. So if you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, or a rough patch, now you know.

The center treats depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and addiction. You don’t need an appointment—we’ve already mentioned that—or health insurance. The idea is that anyone can walk through the door, no paperwork or questions asked. They offer individual and group therapy, as well as specific addiction treatment programs. But keep in mind: not everything is for crisis situations; you can also start therapy at your own pace.

One of the biggest barriers to seeking help is money. Well, here they won’t check your wallet. The organization is clear on this: lack of insurance is no excuse. Plus, they want to launch campaigns to destigmatize mental health. The center will coordinate with other social services so that no one is left behind.

This model could serve as an example for other cities. For now, residents of Reno and the surrounding area can walk in without an appointment and without worrying about the cost. Head over there—the clinic is on 5th Street, as you know.
