In the middle of Paseo del Borne in Palma, some posters have appeared that promise you immigration appointments anywhere in Spain. The message is unmistakable: they get it for you in a week. The trick? They charge 60 euros per appointment, as this newspaper has been able to verify.
To get you the appointment, they ask for your first name, last name, document number, country, date of birth, city, and province. However, you only pay when you receive the confirmation. And look at the procedures they offer: from asylum renewal or fingerprinting, to collection of the TIE, invitation letters, NIE assignment, EU certificate, return authorization, and various residence certificates.
Police sources confirm that in recent months they have dismantled several organizations that were making a fortune with procedures that are free. They add that these mafias have lost momentum — and not without reason — because the State already offers more than 70% of the slots through digital certificate. That prevents identity theft. All information about this plot has been sent to the Central Unit for Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Fraud, the UCRIF.
So, if you see a poster like that, don't hand over a single euro. All immigration procedures are free if you do it yourself on the electronic portal or by requesting an appointment directly. Be suspicious of anyone who asks you for money upfront — and if you have suspicions, report it to the Police.
