Starting this Monday, if you’re Peruvian, you can forget about making an appointment for your e-passport. The National Superintendency of Migration—or simply “Migraciones”—has changed the system: now they serve people on a first-come, first-served basis at their 31 offices across the country.
And things got off to a good start. In the first two hours at the main office in Breña (Lima), 250 people walked in without waiting in line—no lines, mind you—and 100 managed to complete their biometric identification. Something similar happened at the Surco and Comas offices, according to Migraciones’ general manager, Albino César Nieto. "They will no longer have to rely on a digital platform to keep track of their appointment," he said. Before the launch, the agency conducted a trial on May 28, 29, and 30. In a single day, a Lima office issued more than 1,000 passports; nationwide, the total exceeded 4,500.
What do you need to apply? Just your original ID card. No copies or forms. And be careful with the photo: no dark glasses, hats, or white clothing; a neutral expression. And don’t be fooled by middlemen: Immigration has detected informal networks—the infamous “queue mafia” or groups that book fake flights to request emergency passports. The process is free, except for the official fee.
And will there be enough passports? Yes, guaranteed. The Director of Operations, Valeria Morales, announced a contract to purchase over one million passports, covering needs through 2028. In fact, all offices combined can issue up to 5,000 passports per day. So far this year, 323,321 have already been issued—3% more than in the same period of 2025.
If you’re Peruvian and live in Spain, this is important for you if you want to renew your passport or travel to Peru. You can now visit any Immigration office without an appointment; they’ll assist you on a first-come, first-served basis. Just make sure to arrive early and avoid peak hours. And if you’re not in a hurry, take your time scheduling your visit, because the system is always open.
