Starting June 1, you can stop struggling with the Peruvian Immigration website. You will no longer need to make an appointment to apply for an electronic passport. Just show up at the office—they’ll see you on a first-come, first-served basis—and that’s it. Until now, getting an appointment was an ordeal that could take weeks. But starting on the first day of the month, all you have to do is go.
The new system, dubbed “Passport Without a Virtual Appointment,” enters its final phase on May 28, 29, and 30. During those three days, some offices may already be able to serve you without an appointment, but the measure goes into full effect on Monday, June 1. The change is nationwide: both in Lima and in all regions.
What do you need? The main thing is the payment: 120.90 soles (about 30 euros). You can pay at Banco de la Nación, via Págalo.pe, or in cash at the offices. Also, bring your valid ID. If it’s for a minor, you’ll need parental authorization. The agency recommends arriving early and with everything ready to avoid any surprises.
So, the Immigration Office aims to alleviate the backlog with this measure. However, it warns that daily capacity is limited: if you arrive late, you may have to return the next day. Even so, the system promises to reduce the wait times that have caused so many headaches for travelers.
If you’re Peruvian and live in Spain, this news is relevant to you if you plan to travel to Peru to renew or apply for your passport. But be aware: the measure only applies within the country. At consulates in Spain, the system still requires an appointment. So, if your trip is imminent, it’s best to schedule in advance.
