Peru has completely overhauled its passport system. The National Superintendency of Migration has announced the news: in June, 88,793 electronic passports were issued, a record number. The reason? They’ve eliminated the online appointment requirement. Since then, you can simply go directly to the offices without any further steps.
The busiest offices were Surco (Jockey Plaza), with 14,328 passports, and Breña, the headquarters, with 13,820. Superintendent Juan Ramiro Alvarado explained that the measure was in response to complaints from the public: “We listened to the people. Now, nearly 89,000 people have obtained their passports without waiting for an appointment.” The increase in operational capacity has made it possible to handle the demand without overwhelming the service.
So, if you have family in Peru or are planning to travel soon, this is relevant to you. The process requires a valid national ID (DNI) and a payment of 120.90 soles. You can pay in cash, with Yape, via POS terminal, or through the Banco de la Nación’s Págalo.pe platform (code 01810). No need to book an appointment online—just show up at any Immigration office.
For Peruvians living in Spain, this new development simplifies the renewal process when they travel to their home country. You no longer have to deal with the scarcity of online appointments. The agency promises to continue modernizing immigration services.
