Police warn: regularization could triple the immigrant population in five years.

The General Commissariat of Immigration and Borders has issued a serious warning: the regularization launched by the Government could skyrocket the foreign population. According to police sources, around 1.3 million applications have already been submitted. And the pull effect of family reunification —through 'social roots'— could triple that number in the next five years. So watch out.

Agents fear that those who manage to regularize now will bring their family members using social roots. For that you need to have legal residency and direct family ties. If you meet this, you can reunite with your wife, your children, or other relatives. The Police estimate that this mechanism will bring about three million more people in five years. A figure that far exceeds what the Ministry had anticipated.

The UCRIF —the Central Unit for Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Fraud— is already on the lookout to catch frauds. The mafias, for their part, are not standing still. According to the Police, they charge between 14,000 and 20,000 euros for trips by dinghy or fishing boat from Morocco and Algeria. They are also alert to falsifications of family ties. To speed up the review of files, the Government has set the extra hour for officials at 25 euros —well above the usual 10 euros. Hurry up if you can.
