Regularization of 130,000 files and endless queues

In just two weeks, the extraordinary regularization has added more than 130,000 files. Impressive numbers, but in practice —if you are involved you know it well—, obtaining the vulnerability report or a simple appointment has become an ordeal. The offices cannot keep up.

So, if you are involved in the process, the first thing is to gather the documents that prove your stay in Spain. Any document —public or private— where your name and date appear is valid. However, the offices prefer public ones, but if you only have private ones, they also count. And don't forget the criminal record: the Spanish authorities check them internally, but you need the certificate from your country of origin, apostilled or legalized and translated. If you don't have it yet, you can submit proof of having requested it, a sworn statement, or an authorization for Spain to request it. Warning: if there is no response in three months, they give you 15 days to provide it or they archive your process.

By the way, you will have to fill out the official form and pay a fee of 38.28 euros. Once they admit your application, you can reside and work provisionally until you are granted the definitive permit —a renewable one-year card—. You have until June 30, 2026 to present it, so don't leave it to the last moment, get moving.

If you are an asylum seeker and have minor children, you can request authorization for them without having to meet the usual birth or residence deadlines. The requirements of economic means and housing report are also eliminated. And not only that: your parents or spouse can be included in this transitional provision. Those who already have a pending application for rootedness —social, work-related or training-related— can also switch to this route if they meet the conditions.

The regularization is progressing, but the bureaucratic bottleneck is real. If you find yourself stuck with appointments or paperwork, you are not alone. You know it.
