The extraordinary regularization for migrants is already underway. If you are in Spain without papers —or in an irregular situation—, this process is your opportunity to obtain a residence permit and also access benefits such as the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) or the Child Assistance supplement.

The first step is to request an appointment with the Social Security. Without that affiliation number you cannot start. Request it online on the electronic office or by phone. Beware, schedules fill up quickly. If there is no appointment in your province, try nearby towns or try again another day.

With the affiliation number you can now apply for the IMV. This aid is for low-income households. If you have children, do not forget to also request the Child Assistance supplement —each minor adds a monthly bonus that makes a difference.

And how do you know if your application is progressing? The Social Security has an online inquiry. With a digital certificate or Cl@ve you can see the status. If you don't have one, call by phone. Deadlines are lengthy, so be patient: don't despair if they don't reply for weeks.

Important: this regularization has temporary windows. Inform yourself well about the dates on the Ministry's website or at the immigration offices. Do not let the deadline pass. And if you are lost with your case, seek free advice from NGOs or unions.
