Regularization: download your Social Security number

Well, if you’ve already received confirmation that your regularization application has been accepted for processing, you’re in luck. That document not only confirms that your case is moving forward—it also grants you a temporary work permit. In other words, you can start working right away. And UTEX is automatically assigning Social Security numbers to everyone who has received that confirmation.

To download your certificate with that number, you’ll need a digital certificate or the Cl@ve system. Go to the Social Security website, look for the “check membership number” option, and choose how you want to access it. It’s faster with a digital certificate, just so you know. If you prefer SMS, that works too, but be patient—assignments are done in batches, and yours might not be ready yet.

Getting an error? That’s normal—don’t worry. Assignments are processed in batches, so your number might not be ready yet. Try again in a few days or weeks. That said, if you have a job offer and need it right away, make an in-person appointment at the Social Security Treasury office to request it. Bring your application confirmation and your ID or passport, and get going.

Keep in mind that all regularization applications must be submitted by June 30, 2026. As soon as you receive your application acknowledgment, the provisional work authorization allows you to work as an employee or self-employed. So don’t wait for the physical card: with the acknowledgment letter and your Social Security number, you can start working right away.
