Renta presencial 2026: you can make an appointment now, but don't go to sleep

Starting this Friday, May 29, 2026, you can book an appointment to file your income tax return in person. In other words, if you’d rather have a tax official help you review and submit your information—as people have always done—this option is for you. That said, if you’re a foreigner living in Spain, take note: the deadline to book an appointment is June 29, 2026. Act fast before it’s too late.

In-person appointments—dubbed “Renta presencial”—are available from June 1 to 30, 2026, depending on the office you choose. Normal hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but be aware: some offices with additional staff are also open in the afternoon. Don’t wait until the last day. Appointment slots fill up fast, and you don’t want to miss out.

How do you request it? Online, through the Tax Agency’s electronic portal. You need to access the appointment service and select “in-person tax return.” You’ll be asked for your NIE, name, phone number, and email. Once confirmed, you’ll receive a confirmation slip with the date, time, and address, as well as an email with the details. So there’s no excuse.

Essential documents: your NIE or passport, your tax return information (download it from the Tax Agency’s website), and if you have a spouse or children, theirs as well. For income such as rent, business activities, or capital gains, bring the supporting documents. Without all of that, they won’t file your return. So start getting everything ready.

If you’re applying for residency or working in Spain, remember: filing an income tax return is mandatory if your income exceeds certain thresholds. Not booking an appointment in time can get you into trouble with the tax office. So start getting your paperwork ready and book an appointment as soon as possible—hurry, because the deadline is fast approaching.
