SAIME is renewing ID cards without an appointment: Does this affect you if you live in Spain?

SAIME—the agency responsible for issuing identification documents in Venezuela—has launched a special initiative to renew identity cards without an appointment. They announced this on July 2, and although they haven’t provided many details, you might be interested if you’re Venezuelan and live in Spain.

If you’re Venezuelan and in Spain, this applies to you. Your ID card is the key to almost everything: applying for a passport, handling notary matters, or proving your identity at consulates. So keeping it up to date will save you a lot of headaches.

That said, SAIME hasn’t clarified whether this applies to consulates outside Venezuela or only within the country. It’s best to check for yourself on their website or social media. And be careful: don’t trust anyone who offers to handle the process for you in exchange for money. There are a lot of scammers out there.

What can you do if you need to renew it? Check the SAIME website from time to time to see if they’ve made appointments available or extended consulate hours. You can also call the consulate in your city. But never share your personal information or photos with strangers online.

Ultimately, having your paperwork in order is what allows you to live peacefully in Spain, both when it comes to immigration matters and your day-to-day life. So now you know: be careful and stick to trusted sources.
