The deadline to request an appointment for nationality under the Democratic Memory law has expired.

Well, that's it: since October 22, 2025, you cannot request an appointment for nationality under the Democratic Memory Law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shut the door. If you were smart and requested an appointment before that date —and they even gave you a receipt—, you will receive credentials to choose a day and time at the consulate. So stay alert.

However, once you have the credentials, you only have three weeks to set the appointment. Do not be complacent: if you don't do it within that window, your user is deleted and goodbye opportunity. The system is relentless with delays.

All this setup comes from the additional eighth provision of Law 20/2022, the Democratic Memory Law. Thanks to it, descendants of exiled Spaniards can apply for nationality. The appointment at the consulate is mandatory: you have to go in person to submit the documents.

Before going to the consulate, carefully review the documentation they require. Appointments are assigned in order of request and according to availability. If you already have the credentials, do not lose them —keep them in a safe place.
