Seville is the Andalusian province with the second-highest number of applications in the special regularization process. Only Málaga has more. Between April and June 2026, 33,690 applications were submitted in the province. Across Andalusia, the total was 161,557, and nationwide, 1,174,978.
The government had expected about 500,000 applications nationwide. The final figure is double that estimate. But keep in mind: each application must pass the government’s screening process. Not all of the applications submitted will result in a residence and work permit.
The law firm Méndez Izquierdo Abogados has noticed an increase in inquiries. People want to know the status of their application, whether they’ve been granted provisional work authorization, how to respond to requests for additional documentation, and what conditions they’ll need to meet to renew their permit after one year.
If you’re going through this process, keep an eye out for notifications from the General Directorate of Migration Management. Respond quickly and thoroughly. If they ask for more documents, don’t ignore them. There are also those who were not included in this extraordinary regularization but may be eligible for another route. For example, the various types of ties to Spain: second chance, socio-occupational, social, socio-educational, or family-based. Generally, two years of continuous residence in Spain are required, except for family-based ties.
There has also been an increase in questions about Spanish citizenship. To apply for it based on residency, you must have lived here legally and continuously immediately prior to the application. Additionally, you must demonstrate good civic conduct and integration. Simply being registered with the municipal census is not enough. You must review your administrative status, your absences from Spain, and your criminal record.
In summary: review your file, don’t skip any steps, and if you have questions, seek specialized advice.
