Spain prepares for the definitive launch of the Entry/Exit System (EES) on April 10


The big change at Spanish borders. As of 00:00 hours on April 10, 2026, traditional passport stamps will disappear forever.


The new European Union Entry/Exit System (EES) will become mandatory at all airports, ports, and land borders of Spain (including Gibraltar, Ceuta, and Melilla).


What will happen upon arrival in Spain?


- They scan your passport

- They will take a facial photo

- They will take four fingerprints

- The system will automatically calculate the days you have left according to the 90/180 rule

Data will be stored securely for 3 years.

There are already more than 700 new automatic kiosks at Madrid and Barcelona airports. Even so, authorities warn that wait times may increase by up to 70% during the first days.
