Starting this Monday, San Pedro de Alcántara Hospital in Cáceres has stopped performing general blood tests without an appointment. So, if you’re in the process of applying for residency or citizenship, this is important for you.
Until now, you could just show up at the hospital first thing in the morning and that was it. Well, that’s over. Now, blood draws for general tests are done at health centers and clinics within the Cáceres Health District. If you’re registered as a resident in the area, you have to make an appointment at your local clinic. It’s that simple.
That said, there is one exception: if you have a referral from a hospital specialist—only from a doctor there—you can go to the hospital but between 8 and 9:30 a.m. No appointment needed, but you must have that referral. Note: this applies only to the tests requested by that specialist.
What if you need a medical certificate for your immigration file? Normally, your primary care doctor at the health center provides it. With this change, everything stays the same: make an appointment at your clinic, they’ll run the blood test, and then they’ll give you the report. Don’t bother going to the hospital to wait in line because they’ll turn you away. Trust me.
If your situation is urgent or you’re not sure how to get the documentation, talk to your social worker or an immigrant support organization. In Cáceres, the Immigration Office can also guide you. Get moving—the deadlines are tight.
