It's over. The deadline for the extraordinary regularization has closed its doors —and it did so with a record. Social Security has registered 1,174,978 requests. A figure that speaks for itself: the demand was massive. So, if you submitted yours on time, congratulations. If not, sorry, but this is over.
This process —dubbed the extraordinary regularization— allowed foreigners in an irregular situation to regularize their stay. It was open for a few months, and now the administration has to digest that cake. For those who submitted their application on time, the wait begins. And it won't be short, make no mistake.
What now? Social Security will review each case. It will communicate the resolutions little by little. If you submitted your application, keep your data updated and check your email or official notification. There is no fixed deadline —the administration does not give specific dates—, but they usually resolve in order of entry. So patience, it's long.
If you did not manage to submit it, bad news: this mechanism is no longer open and there will be no extension. So, from now on, you will have to explore other avenues. Depending on your situation, you can choose from:
- Social roots
- Job offer
- Family reunification
