Well, the Ministry of the Interior has finally come clean: yes, the Immigration Office’s appointment system is completely overwhelmed. In a response to a Junts MP dated April 13, the government acknowledges that the “mass hoarding” of appointments has become a problem across the country. So what you already knew is now official.
According to the document, hackers are the ones snatching up appointments from the system to sell them. That said, the official process remains free—but some people are voluntarily paying to jump the line. The authorities aren’t calling it a scam, but they’re investigating it. Meanwhile, you’re left twiddling your thumbs.
The Ministry of the Interior says they’re beefing up the system—the General Directorate of Immigration and Borders and the General Secretariat for Digital Administration. They have open investigations, and the issue has already reached the courts. But for now, there’s no data on how many complaints there are by year or region. Hurry up, because it’s unclear.
And it’s not just the website that’s failing. The unions—CSIF and CCOO—say that staff training has been a mess. About 1,000 workers in municipal offices serving towns with more than 50,000 residents barely received a short video call and a sheet of paper. On the very day the process began. The Workers’ Commissions union calls it outright “a joke.” Well, there you have it.
The result: total crashes, a system that moves at a snail’s pace. In Granada, an office closed at noon after having processed only two cases. And they’re now in their second week under pressure to certify that the process is a success. You know the drill—it’s not your fault.
If you’re waiting for an appointment and it’s not working, don’t think you’re clumsy. The system is really crashing, and even the government admits it. Try logging in during off-peak hours or stop by the office if you can. But be careful: don’t pay anyone for an appointment. Even if it’s not a scam, you’re breaking the law. You’ve been warned.
