As of July 2, 2026, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration had recorded 1,174,978 applications for extraordinary regularization. The ministry itself released this information. And the numbers are disheartening if you’re waiting: 609,737 cases are still pending, and only 11,000 have received a favorable decision.
Eight out of every ten applications—79.6%—were filed on the grounds of extraordinary ties to the country. The remaining 20.4% were filed under international protection. These are two distinct pathways, with vastly different requirements and processing times. Before you submit a single document, make sure you know which pathway applies to your case: if you’re in the wrong one, you could waste months waiting.
Who Is Seeking Legal Status
The majority of applicants are between 25 and 34 years old: 31.3%. This is followed by the 35–44 age group, at 21.6%, and the 16–24 age group, at 17%. Those under 15 account for 11.1% of the applications, indicating that many applications are filed by families. Starting at age 45, the number drops sharply: 11.9% for those aged 45 to 54, 5.2% for those aged 55 to 64, and just 1.9% for those over 65.
Catalonia accounts for the highest number of applications (257,602), ahead of the Community of Madrid (202,424), the Valencian Community (167,286), and Andalusia (161,557). Further behind are Castile-La Mancha, the Basque Country, Murcia, Castile and León, Galicia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, and Aragon, all with fewer than 53,000 applications. Looking at the data by province, Madrid and Barcelona account for the largest share of the workload: 202,424 and 192,195 applications, respectively. Valencia has 74,951, and Alicante has 73,245.
By nationality, Colombia tops the list with 25.9% of the applications. Morocco accounts for 13.3%, and Venezuela for 11.8%. Next are Peru (8.8%), Honduras (4.8%), Paraguay (3.8%), Algeria (3.4%), Senegal (2.9%), Pakistan (2.5%), and Argentina (2.3%).
Here’s a practical detail that explains how this process works: attorneys have filed 58% of the applications. In-person submissions with an official account for 16.8%, administrative agents for 8.4%, and the applicants themselves for only 7.3%. RECEX entities account for 5.1%, and labor relations specialists account for 3.6%. If your application is among those still pending, keep all supporting documents and check its status through the official channel. Do not trust rumors on online forums.
