Well, the extraordinary regularization for migrants in Spain has already closed, and with a figure that triples expectations. According to data extracted from the 'Mercurio' platform, as of late Tuesday more than 1.37 million applications had been registered. The director of Legalteam, Guillermo Morales, estimates that the final figure will be around 1.4 to 1.5 million. The government, which had an initial forecast of 500,000 people, has acknowledged that the process has exceeded all expectations.

And Morales criticizes the Executive's lack of transparency. The last official update, on June 15, placed the requests at 900,000. Since then, the Ministry has not provided any more data. The expert makes it clear: the issue of possible duplicates is 'a joke', because the computer system automatically blocks two applications with the same passport.

But the real problem, he warns you, is coming now. Appointments for fingerprints at the police station – attention – are expected to cause a 'monumental' collapse. And the 500 million for integration does not convince him: 'Why don't they spend it on hiring more police officers to serve people?'.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has opened the door to a possible consultation with the Court of Justice of the EU. It has given five days to the autonomous communities that challenged the regularization – among them, the Valencian Community and Aragon – to state whether the measure clashes with the European Migration and Asylum Pact. The Supreme Court doubts that the decree could conflict with EU legislation.
