Well, the deadline for the extraordinary regularization of foreigners ends this Tuesday, June 30. And the result is not something to celebrate. Two days remain, and more than 900,000 people have submitted their files, but barely 300,000 have been admitted for processing — according to data from the Ministry and CEAR. In other words, 70% of requests are up in the air. So if you haven't done it yet, hurry up.

Professionals denounce that the administration is slow and there are technical failures. María García, a lawyer specializing in Immigration Law, who has an office in Torre Pacheco (Murcia), tells us that the deadlines are not being met and that the computer system — which uses artificial intelligence to issue documents — is causing chaos. She also warns that some third-sector entities are submitting incomplete files. In short, you don't want to deal with that.

NGOs are requesting an extension of the deadline. The platform 'Regularización Ya', which leads the petition, insists that there is a backlog both in the Spanish administration and in the consulates of the countries of origin. On June 10, they brought a non-legislative proposal to Congress, backed by Podemos, Sumar, EH Bildu, ERC, and BNG, to extend the process. But the Government has not yet commented. So, for now, what you see is what you get.

Not all is bad news, mind you. Advisor Elisabet Llanos highlights that the admissions that are coming through are being useful for companies and workers. And lawyer María García acknowledges that, despite the problems, the process has served to bring thousands of people out of the shadow economy. However, she fears that many will be left out due to bureaucratic delays. So stay alert.
