Today is the deadline. The special regularization process for undocumented migrants closes tonight. If you were in Spain before January 1 of this year and have no criminal record, you can still submit your application before the end of the day. So if you’ve been hesitating, act now.
Sánchez is clear on this: without the migrant population, Spain would lose 19% of its GDP by 2050 and 22% by 2075. This is no small matter: we’re talking about more than 90,000 bars that would have to close their doors and one in three farms that would disappear. The government insists that migration is not a problem, but rather a strategic opportunity for the coming decades.
The response has been massive. The government has received more than one million applications, which, for Sánchez, proves that the measure was necessary. The integration plan accompanying the regularization initiative has a budget of 505 million euros for its first year alone. It is divided into four pillars: employment, rights, coexistence, and citizenship. Specific measures include more than 100,000 vocational training spots tailored to the job market, entrepreneurship programs, strengthening the Labor Inspectorate, and actions against hate speech. In short, they’re taking this integration business seriously.
What if you weren’t able to submit your application today? Take a deep breath—it’s not the end of the world. The Supreme Court has proposed bringing the matter before the Court of Justice of the European Union to determine whether it conflicts with EU law, specifically the Schengen Agreement and European regulations. There’s no answer yet, but the question is on the table. In the meantime, check whether you meet the requirements for other pathways: social, employment, or family ties. The law provides for several options. Don’t just sit around.

And if you run into obstacles, you’re not alone: there are organizations that offer free advice. Seek help, because deadlines and paperwork can be a maze.
