Well, if you live in Salamanca and need to regularize your status, you can now do so at three post offices. Castilla y León has set up 18 service locations—there are 371 throughout Spain—to process the new extraordinary regularization procedure approved by the government.
Here is the breakdown by province:
- Valladolid: 4 offices
- Burgos: 3
- Salamanca: 3
- León: 2
- Ponferrada: 1
- Ávila: 1
- Palencia: 1
- Segovia: 1
- Soria: 1
- Zamora: 1
As you can see, every province has at least one service location.
However, to use the service, you need to make an appointment in advance. You can request one on the website of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration or by calling 060. The process begins following the publication of the royal decree in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which takes effect this Thursday. It is expected to benefit nearly half a million migrants.
Basically, the regulation distinguishes between two main groups: asylum seekers who applied before January 1, and undocumented individuals who were already in Spain before that date. In both cases, there are common requirements: being of legal age, proving continuous residence for at least five months, presenting an identity document, having no criminal record, and paying a fee.
On the other hand, those who are not asylum seekers must meet an additional condition: they must have a job or a job offer, have dependent family members, or be in a vulnerable situation (as verified by a report from social services). Any legally valid evidence may be used to prove continuous residence. Regarding criminal records, if your home country does not respond within one month, the government will request the information through diplomatic channels.
Applications are processed by the Immigration Case Processing Unit within three months. Once your application is accepted for processing, you may reside and work in Spain on a provisional basis.
