Two Foreign Nationals Arrested in Palencia for Possession of Fake Immigration Documents

The Provincial Immigration and Border Brigade of the National Police in Palencia has arrested two men. The reason: they submitted false documents during immigration proceedings. Both men were brought before the judicial authorities, charged with the crime of document forgery. The investigation remains open, and the possibility of additional charges has not been ruled out.

The first case came to light on September 11. Officers were reviewing a file of personal documentation when they noticed something unusual about the accompanying certificate of residence registration. They ran it through police databases, and the result was clear: the document was forged. The man who had presented it was arrested on the spot.

Three days later, on September 14, the second case occurred. This time, the suspicious document was a Romanian ID card used in another immigration proceeding. Police checks once again confirmed the fraud. Its bearer met the same fate.

The two incidents follow a recurring pattern: documents that appear legitimate at first glance but fall apart as soon as someone runs them through a database. A certificate of residence registration or a foreign identity document are common items in any immigration file. They are also, however, among the easiest for the police to verify.

So keep this in mind if you’re in the midst of a regularization process. If someone offers to get you a certificate of residence, a contract, or an identity document without going through official channels, be wary. What seems cheap can end up costing you dearly: aside from jeopardizing the entire process, document forgery is a crime and can land you in court. And be wary of agents who promise shortcuts, because the case always ends up in the same hands.
