This Monday it's time to move. The extraordinary regularization for immigrants moves to the in-person phase, so if you already requested an appointment online, you now have to go to the office you chose to submit the documentation. Appointments have been assigned since last Thursday, when the online period opened.
There are more than 400 points spread throughout Spain. Let me detail: 30 Social Security offices (from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM), 371 Post Office locations in provincial capitals or cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM), and five Immigration offices in Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Almería, and Murcia (from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM). If you booked with Cl@ve, you can choose the one that suits you best yourself. If you did it by phone or with a form, they assign the closest one based on your data. Make sure you bring everything they ask for.
Who can request this regularization? Well, people who were in Spain before January 1 of this year and asylum seekers who requested protection before that date. In addition, you must have resided continuously for at least five months at the time of the application and not have a criminal record. So, if you meet the requirements, you can apply for it.
The documents you have to submit are: the application, a criminal record certificate, proof of your stay in Spain, and in some cases, a vulnerability report from an accredited NGO. To prove how long you have been here, the municipal register is valid, but also an electricity contract, a rental agreement, a medical report, or a money transfer receipt. You don't want to fight with bureaucracy, so bring everything you can.
The applications will be processed by the Foreign Affairs File Processing Unit (UTEX), based in Vigo. The Government has hired more than 600 people to reinforce the team. If everything goes well, you will obtain a residence and work authorization valid for one year. After that time, you can renew for another year or switch to a more stable permit if you meet the requirements. So, you know, get moving.
