From this Thursday you can process your regularization request online. Or request an appointment to go in person. The online route is open today; in-person appointments start on Monday, April 20. So if you want to go to an office, make a move.
For the online route you will need a digital certificate or for a manager or collaborating entity to do it for you. The enabled website is that of the Ministry of Inclusion. If you prefer face-to-face, you can already request an appointment at these locations:
- Five Foreigners' Offices: Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Almería and Murcia.
- 60 Social Security offices.
- 371 Post Office branches distributed across provincial capitals and cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
Who can benefit? Those who are in an irregular situation and arrived in Spain before January 1 of this year. Additionally, you must have been in the country for at least five consecutive months at the time of requesting it. It also applies to asylum seekers who requested protection before that date. A key requirement: no criminal record. Caution.
To prove your stay, you can use the municipal register. But also:
- A medical report.
- A utility or rental contract.
- A proof of money transfer.
So, there are options. The permit granted lasts one year and allows you to work and reside in any sector. As soon as your application is admitted for processing, they give you a provisional work authorization. And when they resolve favorably, you have one month to request the 'TIE' —the Foreigner Identification Card—. However, this permit is not valid for working or living in other EU countries. So you know, if you move around Europe, it will not serve you.
If you are a minor, you are given a residence authorization for five years. And if you are part of the same family unit, you can process the procedure in a single appointment. After the year, you will have to change to another figure in the immigration regulations; if you do not meet the requirements, there are other avenues such as an integration report from a social entity. So stay alert.
The total deadline to apply ends on June 30, 2026. So you have time, but don't get complacent. If you opt for in-person, hurry because appointments fly by. And if it's online, don't leave it for the last day either.
