You can now book a free appointment for your tax return in Valencia.

Filing your income tax return can be a hassle if you’re in Spain with an NIE and don’t speak the language well. But heads up: the Valencian Tax Agency—the ATV, that is—has already opened the window for scheduling appointments. So you can go there to get free help in person.

You can book an appointment starting May 29. The service is available from June 1 to June 30. Just remember, you have until June 29 to request one. And let’s be clear: without an appointment, they won’t see you, so get moving.

Where? In the city of Valencia, Alicante, and Castellón, as well as at a number of tax offices in smaller towns. This year, locations have been added in Ademuz, Ayora, and Paiporta. Hours vary by day: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

They’ll help you fill out your tax return and apply the regional deductions. For example, for dental care expenses—up to 150 euros—for prescription eyeglasses—up to 100 euros—or for sports activities. There’s also a new deduction for music lessons. As long as your taxable income doesn’t exceed 60,000 euros for single filers or 78,000 euros for joint filers, you can take advantage of these deductions.

If your income is lower or you’re over 75, the sports deduction can be as high as 100%—though it’s capped at 150 euros. They’ll explain all this to you during your appointment. So don’t wait: if you don’t make an appointment, it’ll be a hassle later.

Remember: it’s completely free. You don’t need an accountant. Just your NIE, your employment details, and your income information. If you have any questions, ask them during the appointment.
