You can now make an appointment in person to regularize your status at the Post Office, Social Security and Foreigners' Office

This Monday, April 20, marks the start of the in-person phase of the special regularization process for migrants. If you are in Spain without documents and meet the requirements, you can now schedule an appointment to submit your application in person. Note that it is not mandatory to do this online: the in-person option is an alternative for those who prefer or need face-to-face assistance.

To schedule an appointment, you have two options: online or by calling 060. Then you choose where to go. The government has set up three types of locations. Take note: 30 Social Security offices open from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday; 371 post offices in provincial capitals or cities with more than 50,000 residents, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM; and five Immigration Offices in Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Almería, and Murcia—also from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Who is eligible? You must have arrived in Spain before January 1, 2026, and prove a continuous stay of at least five months. However, you cannot have a criminal record. Additionally, you must meet at least one of the following conditions: have a job offer, family ties in Spain, or be in a vulnerable situation. In some cases, you will be asked to provide a vulnerability report issued by an accredited NGO.

Remember: bring all documentation proving your stay to the appointment: proof of residence, contracts, official certificates, passport, and a criminal record check from your home country. The process is open until June 30. If all goes well, you’ll receive a one-year, renewable residence and work permit.

Be very careful: problems have already arisen. The system is overwhelmed, and there are long lines to obtain documents. Scams have also emerged: people selling appointments that are actually free. Do not pay for an appointment. If someone offers you one in exchange for money, report them.

This regularization is one of the most extensive in decades. It aims to allow those already living here to work legally and access healthcare and social protection.
