You can now make an appointment with the Tax Authorities as of June 1st

Starting June 1, you can make an appointment with the tax office to get help with your tax return in person. If you’re a foreigner living here, you might find it helpful to know how this works.

The appointment system is activated every year—to avoid chaos. You can make an appointment online (on the Tax Agency’s website) or by phone. You can also go directly to an office, but they recommend making an appointment if you don’t want to wait for hours. The filing period begins on June 1, and the tax season usually ends in late June.

And who is required to file? Well, if you’ve worked in Spain, have rental income, or are self-employed, you’ll most likely have to file your taxes. Foreigners with tax residency here also have to file if they exceed certain thresholds. If you’re unsure, make an appointment and an official will clear things up for you.

For the appointment, bring your NIE, your draft tax return if you have it, your pay stubs or withholding certificates, and any documents for deductible expenses—rent, pension plans, anything you can deduct from your taxable income. The tax office advisors will help you fill out Form 100 or 150, depending on your situation.

Note: If you don’t file your return on time, the tax office may fine you. The filing period runs from April to June, but with an appointment, you can clear up any doubts and avoid making mistakes. If you’re struggling with the language, ask if there’s a translation service available or bring someone you trust with you.
