From this Monday, April 20, if you already have an appointment, you can go in person to start the 'extraordinary regularization'. The online process began last Thursday, and in just 24 hours, 13,500 online applications and 19,633 in-person appointments were registered.
Well, there are more than 400 offices distributed. So you have several options: 30 Social Security offices, open from 16.00 to 19.00, Monday through Friday. 371 Post Office offices in provincial capitals or cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, with hours from 8.30 to 17.30. And five Foreigners' offices in Madrid, Alicante, Valencia, Almería, and Murcia — also from 16.00 to 19.00.
To book an appointment, you can do it online with Cl@ve, choosing the nearest office. And if you prefer the phone number 060 or an online form, they automatically assign the closest location based on your data.
Who is this regularization aimed at? Those who are in Spain before January 1 of this year and asylum seekers who applied before that date can request it. However, you must have resided in the country for at least five consecutive months at the time of the application and have no criminal record.
Among the necessary documentation, you will have to prove your length of stay in Spain. The municipal census is valid, but also medical reports, electricity or rental contracts, or money transfer certificates. And separately, you need the criminal record certificate, the completed application, and, only in some cases, a vulnerability report from a government-accredited NGO.
Applications are processed by the Foreigner Case Processing Unit (UTEX), based in Vigo. The Government has reinforced staff with more than 600 people to expedite the process. If all goes well, you will obtain an authorization to reside and work for one year. After that time, you will be able to opt for a more stable permit or request a one-year extension.
The Council of Ministers approved the Royal Decree that modifies the Immigration Regulations. It is estimated that some 500,000 people in an irregular situation will be able to regularize thanks to this extraordinary window.
