Zamora is providing additional support to Vigo to speed up the process of regularizing migrants

The Zamora Immigration Office has lent a hand to the Case Processing Unit (UTEX) in Vigo. Meanwhile, its staff are reviewing the applications for legalization that arrived by mail or through Social Security. They verify that each document is properly scanned, and if there are any errors in the records, they correct them. This lightens the workload for the team in Vigo, which is responsible for making decisions on the cases.

In the province, 1,950 people have applied to participate in the special process launched by the government. So far, 432 have had their applications accepted for processing, which means they’ve received a NIE and can sign contracts. The other 1,518 are still waiting to receive notification. In other words, only one in five has cleared the first hurdle.

This low percentage contrasts with the promise to resolve cases within three months of the deadline, which closed on June 30. Lawyers handling these cases warn that it is very likely many people will reach the end of the one-year validity period without ever having received their Foreigner Identification Card (TIE). But they insist that you do not need to wait for that card to start working.

The admission receipt includes an NIE, so you can start working with it. Keep in mind, you’ll have to renew your permit 60 days before the one-year regularization period ends, or no later than 90 days afterward. If you forget, you risk complicating your situation.
