Zamora Lends a Hand to Vigo to Speed Up the Regularization Process

The Zamora Immigration Office has decided to lend a hand to the Immigration Case Processing Unit (UTEX) in Vigo. The plan: to review all applications received via the postal service or Social Security and verify that they have been properly digitized. If anything is wrong, they fix it on the spot. This takes some of the burden off Vigo and speeds up the process.

In Zamora, the extraordinary regularization process has yielded figures that speak for themselves. A total of 1,950 applications were submitted, and of those, 1,518 are still waiting to be notified whether their applications will be accepted for processing. In other words, they do not have an NIE. Only 432 people—22.1%—have obtained this document, which allows them to work under a contract or as self-employed individuals. The next step is the TIE, which is valid until June 30, 2027.

UTEX is the agency created by the government to centralize and process all these applications. And Zamora’s assistance comes at a critical moment: the three-month deadline that was promised after the application period closed on June 30 has already long since passed. So any extra help is welcome, and according to sources close to the matter, this collaboration will help speed up the issuance of admission notices.

The attorneys handling these cases warn that it is very likely the one-year validity period for regularization will expire before those admitted have received their TIE. But they insist that the admission receipt is valid for employment purposes because it includes a NIE. Keep an eye on the deadlines: you must renew it 60 days before the one-year period expires or 90 days after.

If you’re waiting, don’t just sit around. Check that your information is correct, consult a lawyer if you can, and keep copies of everything. The collaboration between Zamora and Vigo shows that the government is trying to untangle this mess, but that’s not enough. Bureaucracy moves at its own pace, so take action.
