Zamora's Deputy Delegate Denies That the Immigration Office Is Overwhelmed

The Government’s deputy delegate in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, wanted to put an end to the rumors once and for all. Following complaints about delays at the Immigration Office, he is clear on the matter: “There is no backlog or delay here.” And to prove it, he cites the figures: more than 1,900 applications for legalization have been filed in the province.

But don’t assume that all of these were processed at the Zamora office. Many applications were submitted via the post office, through Social Security, or online. Keep in mind, though, that the substantive processing isn’t done here: Blanco makes it clear that this work falls under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Processing Unit in Vigo. In fact, he admits that the number of applications has exceeded projections. So if you’re waiting for a response, the potential bottleneck isn’t in Zamora.

Blanco acknowledges that more people have come to the offices to ask for information. He says he’s spoken with the office manager and that everything is on track. That said, he reminds us that an application isn’t processed until it’s received, accepted, and verified. In other words, processing doesn’t begin until that initial check is complete.

Two new people have joined the team. Blanco assures us that the office is running smoothly and that the numbers prove it. He praises the office manager, whom he describes as hardworking and knowledgeable, and values the experience of the veteran staff. Everyone’s commitment, he says, is a plus.

If you’re waiting for a decision, don’t despair. Your case may be in the queue in Vigo, and that takes time. Keep the receipt confirming you submitted your application handy. If months go by and you haven’t heard anything, take action: go to the immigration office in Zamora to inquire, although in-person assistance may be limited. Bring your case number and be patient.
